Intention>Extremes: How small movements can have big changes

Oftentimes in today’s society, we’re conditioned to believe fitness is about extremes. Long workouts, HITT classes, working out 5 of the seven days of the week, but that’s not the end-all all be-all. Fitness is about the mental and physical connection your brain has with your body, and the truth is, your body remembers the small things.

Studies show that ten minutes of daily movement offers significant health benefits, including improved cardiovascular fitness, a reduced risk of chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes and heart disease, and enhanced mood, to name a few. What does dedicating 10 minutes of your day to movement look like? This can be a 10-minute stretch between meetings, a quick walk around the block instead of scrolling on your phone, or even taking the stairs instead of the elevators. Movement, even in small doses, has an impact and helps you realign both physically and mentally. Instead of aiming for perfection, start by asking, Where can I fit 10 minutes of movement into today?

Here are some suggestions for low-impact higher higher-reward movements:

  • Low-Impact HIIT
  • Do stretches in the morning
  • Have a dance session to your favorite song

Your body doesn’t demand an immediate transformation; it asks for care, attention, and small acts of consistency. Over time, these small movements become big changes not just in your body, but in how you carry yourself through the world. Use this as a reminder to prioritize 10 minutes of movement today!
